Kuching Cat Statue

Kuching - one of the historical city in Sarawak as it was once became the capital of Sarawak Kingdom under the rule of the White Rajahs.

Being a Sarawakian for 21 years, eventually I get to visit Kuching for the first time! Accompanied with my friends - Schervonne & Abraham, we started our day early going to the airport for our flight. Upon arrival in Kuching, we headed straight to Latter Day Saint Church (Schervonne wished to visit) where we met two friendly sisters who took us around and showed the well built facilities in the church. From the church, we proceed to Song Kheng Hai food court for lunch. Then, we went for a walk passing the old shops heading to the famous Cat Statue of Kuching for a photo stop. The vintage design of the buildings and the smell of old shops which bring back the ambiance from the past were things that excite me the most along the way.

Sarawak River

We kept on walking under the scorching sun to witness the Sarawak River. Moving on to the jetty, we get on the traditional boat to cross the river to the other side where we embarked our journey to one of the historical site in Kuching - The Fort Margherita. It was built in 1879 to safeguard Kuching from pirates attack. Today, the fort is opened to Public as The Brooke Gallery showcasing historical documents, artifacts and arts from the White Rajahs era.

The Fort Margherita

On our way back to the jetty, we get to see the city's newest landmark - the Darul Hana Bridge (a pedestrian bridge linking the north and south of Kuching) from afar.

Returning to the city, we stopped by at a souvenir shop at Main Bazaar street to buy some mementoes. After that, we get going to the The Ranee Exhibition at the old court house. Ranee Margaret - the wife to the second Rajah of Sarawak, Charles Vyner Brooke was the first queen of Sarawak Kingdom. The exhibition features the late Ranee's belonging - a collection of textiles and jewellery. The artifacts that have been kept inside the family chest were exclusively brought from England to Kuching by Jason Brooke - the grandson of the last ruling Rajah Muda of Sarawak, Anthony Brooke.

Old Court House

Nearby the old court house, there lies the India Street, another top spot to be visited in Kuching. At the end of the trip, we spent some time with our beloved lecturer Madam Queenie who has been battling brain cancer since July. It was a warm and wonderful visit. We wished for nothing but a speedy recovery and a good life for her.

Get well soon Madam!

On the route, to the airport for our departure flight, we dropped by at Vivacity Megamall for window shopping.

What an exhausting day trip, yet filled with so much fun and beautiful experiences. I will definitely come back as there is more to discover in Kuching. Till next time! Thank you for reading and have a good day!
